Countdown to Kindergarten

It’s getting to be that time of year again! Spring Break is only two weeks away and then everyone will start looking at plans for next school year. This can also be a very exciting time for our preschoolers that will be going on to Kindergarten next year. We will host a parent workshop at the beginning of May on preparing your child for Kindergarten. I will post this date as soon as it is set.

I wanted to share with you as well that the Paul Sawyer Library will be hosting a six week session for children entering kindergarten in the fall. Countdown to Kindergarten will be offered twice a week to allow parents to pick the session that best fits their schedule. Thursday sessions will be offered at 6:30pm and Friday morning sessions will be offered at 11am.

The “Countdown to Kindergarten” program is based on school readiness skills that are important for children to work toward before entering school. The Library has worked directly with Frankfort area kindergarten teachers to build the program curriculum around the skills that are viewed as most important to Frankfort kindergarten readiness. The program will engage children in fun activities that will foster reading, language, motor, social, and general knowledge skills. Participants will receive a “Countdown Calendar” which includes special literacy tips and suggested activities for parents to do with their children as they prepare for school. These activities will begin next week and you will need to register at the Library to attend the sessions. You can contact the library at 502-352-2665 or online at
